The Yardsale
September 2, 2007

Today was the big day! The yardsale planned by the WW to benefit John Michael Cox is finally over. And what a success!

I had put it in the newspaper in Eddie's Colyum, had an ad in the classifieds, had it advertised on WBTM and put it on Trading Post. Thursday evening Margaret and I went up to the church fellowship hall and started putting stuff out. Somebody knocked on the door and a couple came in and asked if they could look at the stuff we had. They ended up buying $40 worth. Then a man from church came by and bought $10 worth. We left there Thursday about 10:30 PM.

Last night we went back and finished putting out stuff that had been donated. Margaret's son and daughter and granddaughter all brought lots of stuff and we were 11:30 PM leaving.

Got there bright and early this morning and had folks waiting for us. We let them in and started the sale about an hour early. We had crowds for about 4 hours and did really good. So far, we've taken in about $800. I hope we continue to get donations..........maybe we can make it up to $1,000.

Visit to Fluvanna
September 13, 2007

I finally had time this morning while the baby was sleeping and wrote about our trip to see Sharon. Unfortunately, the computer was doing something it hasn't ever done before and the journal wasn't responding and it didn't get printed.

So, here goes again. We left Danville at 10:28 AM which is late for us, but until we got as far as Lynchburg, the traffic wasn't bad at all. Then all of a sudden there was a lot of traffic. Football game at UVA against Duke and everybody was going! But that traffic was mild compared to the traffic on the way home.

However, we still got there a little after 1PM and after checking in, got on the "bus" to ride down to the visiting area. She was already there waiting for us, so all we had to do was be shown a place to sit and Tommy could start buying the drinks (with caffeine)and the good snacks his mom craved. We can take $30 worth of change($10 each visitor)and we usually buy each of us a drink and the kids get chips or something and we spend the rest on stuff Sharon doesn't get except on visit days. Usually we have about $10 left, but the snacks had gone up since last time: Tommy came back and said, "There was a lady in the snack room just fussing about the cheeseburgers. She said "I could go to MacDonalds and get this f...g burger for a dollar and it cost four here", and G'ma, this was a lil ole white lady fussing!" Anyway, we spent just about the whole 30 bucks. But, Sharon got her fill of forbidden food!

We got our pic taken again and if I ever figure out how, I'm gonna post it on here. What a treat!! Actually, the one of Sharon, Rebecca and Tommy was very good. I just always make a terrible picture, so I won't post that one.

After a visit of 1 1/2 hours, we had to leave and we stopped by Goodwill in Charlottesville on the way home. I was looking for the second volume of "The O'Malley Chronicles" and the kids were just looking. Tommy did find a computer game called The Sims and Rebecca got a shirt with Pedro on the front and a CD. We stopped again in Colleen at the icecream house with the big cone going through it and they got milkshakes and at The Apple shack for nectarines. Then two more "pee" stops and we were home. Oh, we stopped at FoodLion and I bought groceries with a gift card I got for my B'day. That was VERY nice. Then we came home.

It was a good trip....no deer in the road, no big dogs jumping out in front of cars, no accidents, just state troopers hiding in the trees pulling over speeders. Usually we might see one just sitting, but on the way home we actually had one speed past us with lights flashing to pull over a van that had just sped past us. And exactly in the same place on the other side a trooper had another car pulled over.

All in all, it was a fun trip. Sharon was very glad to see her kids and they were very glad to see her and we got there and back home safely. A very good, beautiful, wonderful day!

OH, an after thought. Now you don't have to be on a list to visit. If you're in the area on an even numbered week end day and you're over 18, you can visit. If you have children under 18, you have to have a birth certificate and sign a paper to get them in the computer, but then, they can visit after that with an adult family member.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhoods
September 15, 2007

Today was a wonderful yardsale day! After the rain of yesterday, the morning was a little foggy and cool, but quickly cleared off to sunshine and very moderate temperatures.

I found some good stuff........a ruby red game and cheat book for Gameboy Advance for Tommy, a new dress and a blazer for Margaret (she's gotten so skinny her clothes don't fit), a beautiful twin size comforter for me for the den sofa, for only 50 cents; 2 new frying pans still in the plastic wrap for Linda for 50 cents, a showere curtain and liner that looks like new for Linda, 2 really old paint by number Indian pictures. I got them for Linda's "Indian" room, but they might be worth more than the 50 cents I paid for them. Also, a bunch of books for a dime each, 2 more of the plastic glasses with Disney movie characters that burgerking used to give away, free pinking shears,a pancake pan that made a really good omelet (25 cents), and some other odds and ends. And I only spent about $6!

We finished the sales about 11:30AM and I came home and did some dishes, some laundry, went B'day shopping for Tommy and went to the grocery store and then at 5PM, Tommy and Richard and Danny picked me up and we met Bobby, Teresa and Rachel at Ryan's and had supper. Now I'm still so stuffed I feel like a big fat pig!

Oh! I found a biscuit cutter just like the one I use that my mama gave me about 50 years ago. The girl selling it didn't even know what it was until I told her, but I got it for a dime. I thought either Cindy or Kerri needed one.......don't know for sure, but whoever calls and claims it, gets it!

Quick Write
September 27, 2007

I thought I'd written in the last two weeks, but apparently not.

Last Thursday I invited Margaret, Richard, Tommy, Danny, Bobby, Teresa, and Rachel to supper. Rachel had too much homework and didn't come, but Danny actually came and I think he had a good time. Susan and Emily got here about the time we were finishing cause they both had to work. But there was enough for them.

I had found a new recipe for meatball subs that was very easy and really good! Of course, making 54 meatballs so I'd have enough for 18 subs, took a lil longer than making enough for 6 subs. But everybody liked them (or said they did) and we had a good time.

Last Sat. we went to yardsales and I found a few good things, but didn't buy a single book! I really needed a watch band cause mine had broke about two months ago. I found a box with a real lizard watchband, the right size and color and it was only a dollar. When I got it home and opened the box, there were two lizard skin bands. One a 19 and one a 20. So, I used one and gave the other to Richard who had broken his.

I bought something else that I'll tell you about if I can figure out to make it work. It's new, but the instructions were missing and I figured out part of it, but can't figure out the rest. I hope I can get it working properly soon. I'm hoping if Linda comes by tomorrow, she can help with it.

Well, it's time for the new season of a couple of shows I watch to start, so I'm gone.
