I haven't written any thing in a long time, but I haven't really had anything to write about. Just the same old, same old! Babies, laundry, cooking, church. Nothing new and exciting in my life! A few times I thought of things, but on rethinking them, decided they weren't worth writing about. But, it did rain today and we did need it, so that's a good thing. Only had one baby for just a few hours and that was a good thing. Ate a lil snack about 2:30 and then lay down on the sofa and slept until 7:20 and that was a very good thing. Cooked supper last night for my pastor and his family and that was very enjoyable. His boys really know to eat! And that was a good thing. I have a little left in my fridge that I hope I can get someone to eat tomorrow, but if not, I won't have to cook Sunday! One thing that was funny: Brittany had her model horse in the baby buggy laying on a folded blanket, slowly pushing it into the dining room and she had a sad look on her face, so I asked her what was wrong. She looked up at me and said,"My horse is a little bit dead and I'm taking him to the vet."

Bobby called me at 6:45 this morning and I hopped up, had my coffee, dressed and made a list of yardsales. He got here about 7:30 and off we went. I had heard about a big sale at the focus school that was a fundraiser for a teacher, so that's where we went first. When we got there, there was a group of folks standing around and a couple said they had been there since 6:30 (the sale was supposed to start at 7). Finally a teacher came up and said that it was her understanding that it had been postponed because of the rain. But it was to be held inside in the focus building. So, don't know what happened, but we left. I did call the radio station, who had been announcing it all morning and told them that it was cancelled. We went to a couple that weren't rained out, but then called it quits and went to the grocery store. Then we came back to my house and I was starting to make biscuits and sausage gravy when Teresa called and said the man was there to hook up the commode, so Bobby went home and I ate a chicken tender for breakfast. Then I went to the postoffice and to the dollar store and went by the bank to make a deposit, but couldn't get the car window rolled down, so I came home and read a book and did laundry and that's about it. So, here I am, but not bored. Never bored!!

Ever since we sold our church I've been wanting to go back and see life there again, after it setting empty for 18 months. Today, Bobby, Margaret Cox and I went to morning worship there. Our former Emmanuel had always been noted for being a friendly church. This congregation was outstandingly friendly. We were made to feel so welcome. The praise singers consisted of three teen age girls and when they started singing it sounded like the choir was full of singers! Then the pastor preached and after he read his text in Matthew, he preached! He didn't have any notes he read, didn't stumble and sputter after words or facts. He just laid back and let it rip and it was a good message. All about God's will for your life and making sure that what you did was God's will. He also touched on the healing power of God and that was also powerful. Best sermon I've heard in a long time!

When I was a young teenager, the North Theater was within walking distance of my house and we used to go to the movies all the time. Every time the feature changed! It was so safe in those days that my parents even let us go in the evening knowing it would be dark when the movie was over. Once my cousin Linda and I decided to go and even let my brother Connie go with us.I think the movie was a musical and tho my brother liked westerns better, he would go to see anything just to be with us. We got our drinks and popcorn and found our seats and when the movie was about over, my brother decided he had to go to the bathroom. Well, we stayed and saw the end of the movie and he hadn't come back, so we went up to the lobby and stood around for a while and waited. Then we decided that maybe he had decided to play a trick on us and left. We went to my house and instead of going in, we snuck up to the living room window and looked in and everybody was there except Connie and the lights were off in the rest of the house. So, off we went back to the North and the 9 o'clock movie had started, but we told the ticket person that we were looking for my brother, so she let us go in. We went in and here he comes out of the men's room. I was so glad to see him that I started not to even fuss, but I did ask where he had been and he said, "Well, there was a long line in there and I really had to go." Monday, October 10, 2005
I was sitting here thinking about members of my family who have served in the Armed Forces. Grandpa Whitt was in the Army during WW1 and Grandma Whitt was one of the first women sailors(WAVES), also in WW1. My daddy was in the Navy, and two of his brothers were soldiers who did duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Boots was in the Army and his brother was in the Navy during WW2. My brother-in-law was in the Navy during this same period. During the Korean War, I had one cousin who was held prisoner by the North Koreans for 18 months and one who was killed serving there. My brother Connie was in the Army for 27 years and served 2 tours of duty in Viet Nam and my brother Tom was in the Army. Tom's son Tony was in the Navy for years and might still be. He was the last time I talked to his mom. And now my niece's son Patrick is at Lackland Air Force base training for the Air Force. Salutes and cheers to all our men in service.

One day last week Kerri asked me if I would cook her birthday dinner. I said sure I would come January. But she meant sooner than that, so I cooked it this past Tuesday. Chad had to work until seven so we didn't eat until he got there. I also invited Cindy and Susan, so we had a table full. Kerri didn't specify what she wanted to eat as do some of my kids, so I fixed what I wanted. I had bought a beautiful, smooth skinned, pretty purple eggplant at Old Dutch so I made what we laughingly call"eggplant pammyjammy". Also baked porkchops with vegetables, macaroni salad, and biscuits. When Kerri came in and sat at the kitchen table to watch me finish, there was a cake plate on the table and she didn't take the cover off or any thing, but when Susan came she did. It was the remains of a cake I had made earlier and Kerri had sat there looking at it, thinking it was her B'day cake. I had made an apple crisp for dessert, but I did offer her a slice of triple chocolate fudge cake. She refused! Anyway, come Jan. 10, I will make her a B'day cake. No dinner, just cake!!

Today in church, in the middle of the sermon, I had this really bad bout of something......nostalgia, homesickness?? What??? I suddenly wanted to see Geraldine, Connie and Tom in the worst way. Not as they were after they got older, but like they were in younger days. I could see them so plainly in my imagination, Gerry's dimples, Connie and Tom's sorta smirky smiles like they knew something I didn't. Then it dawned on me. Richard and I are the only ones left out of my family and we don't even see each other that much. So I called him and he was across the street at church so he came over for a minute to get the black/green sweet pepper I had grown. I'm gonna try my best to see more of him in the future.

Today is my brother Richard's birthday. I remember when he was born. I had gotten off the bus from school and was walking down Henry St. when this real old, real nosy lady hollered at me. "Your Ma's gone to the hospital, I think she had a lil boy, but if she didn't she had a girl". Duh!!!!!!!!! When Daddy got home from work, we ate supper and Geraldine, Daddy and I went to the hospital to see the newest member of the family. Richard was the first and only of my brothers and sister to be born in the hospital, and that only because the doctor wouldn't make house calls. Mama was literally forced to go to the hospital. Back then, when you went to see a new baby, you went on back to the nursery and told them which one you wanted to see and they brought him out and even let us hold him. When we got to mama's room, the first thing she said was, "He's got a head like a football"! He didn't, but he sure was long!! He was a good eater and fattened up real fast. You couldn't look at him now and tell he was a fat baby and a chunky lil boy. But he's still a pretty good eater!!
