Ouch!
June 1, 2007

This evening I had planned to run to Sears for a minute after Brittany and Coby left. I needed to pay my charge card and maybe look around a little.

Well, all of a sudden, cars and trucks started pouring into the parking lot and lining up down the side. I know they have a body over at Wrenn Yeatts, but the paper didn't advertise visitation for this evening.

Emily and her friend Carmela had just come in, so I told Emily to get my keys and go back my car out. Easy, straight shot, plenty of room. I watched at the kitchen window and she never showed, so I went out to see what was going on. Well, she had backed it out, but a BIG red truck was real close to the white line and Emily was easing it back and was real close to the truck's fender. She asked how close she was and I got between the truck and car to do hand signals. You know how folks do when they're helping somebody park or unpark.
Well, she eased on the gas and ran right over my two little toes on my right foot. She kept saying, "Move, G'ma, move". I stood there in shock, totally unable to move and I finally told her, "I'll move when you get the car off my toes."

She then backed on out, got it off my toes, and was so apologetic. It didn't really hurt them; they're a little tender, but I can wear my shoes. However, next time I direct traffic, I'll make sure I'm far away from the vehicles.

Guess what? I didn't have to go to Sears after all. She took my money and card and paid my account for me. So I went out and pulled the car back in to it's rightful parking place.

Busy Weekend
June 5, 2007

I had a busy weekend. First, later on Friday evening after Emily went to Sears for me, she asked if I would follow her and Carmela to Carmela's house to take her mom's car and then bring them back to my house. I agreed and when I went out to my car, there was a big puddle of what I thought was motor oil. I felt of it and it was oily. So, Carmela's dad brought them back.

But, the next day when Kerri's Chad came by to look at my car(I always call him in a panic when something goes wrong, but thankfully, nothing had gone wrong in 14 months)he said it was not oil, but power steering fluid and when he had time he would take it to his house and put it on the lift and check it out.

In the meantime, on Sat. after yardsales, Bobby let me use his car because he can't drive it right now due to his eye problem. So, on Sunday afternoon, little Chad and I went to Eden to hear Tommy play electric guitar in his recital. He played "Star Spangled Banner" and did real good. Then Tommy came back with us to stay a week.

So, when we got home and I got comfortable, somebody told me big Chad was outside and wanted the keys to Bobby's car so he could move it and get my car out. Well, they were receiving friends at the funeral home and Chad pulled Bobby's car up the cement driveway and the guy who had come with him got in my car and maneuvered it from one side of the parking area to the other and slowly drove it down through the yard, around that big tree, and out to the parking lot in front of the dumpster. The guy parking cars in the lot really gawked at the sight!

Kerri called me later and said she had bad news. The rack and pinion had worn out and that's what caused the leak. It would take about $500 to replace it. Chad had put the same thing in his mom's Toyota and had bought a reconditioned one. That one leaked, he bought another; and then another before he got a good one. He said it was cheaper to buy a new one to begin with.

So, last I heard he was working on it. Don't know when he'll be finished or when I can pay him, but God is good! I'm hoping for the best.

Funny

Today Anna stayed with me because her school was out, but her mom had a teacher's work day.

She was fascinated with Coby and helped feed him and when I went to change his pamper, was right there. I took his diaper off and she leaned in closer and said in a questioning voice, "G'ma, what IS that"? I told her what IT was and she sighed and said, "Well, it looks like a brain to me."

What is that saying? "A man's brain is between his legs". Looks like she was right on top of that!

Weekend and Monday
June 11, 2007

After a hectic weekend, I was almost glad to be babysitting again today.

We went to Madison Sat. night to Rebecca's dance recital. Only made one wrong turn, but got there in plenty of time.It was a great performance and then we went to eat at a Mexican restaurant. I wasn't much hungry, so Rachel and I split an order, but Rachel and Rebecca did order fried ice cream, which was beautiful.

Today I was really tired and evidently, so was Coby. I put him down for his morning nap at 9:30AM and finally HAD to wake him up at 3:10PM. I think his mom and dad really worked him over the weekend. He was tired! Matter of fact, when he was sleeping, Brittany was watching Spongebob and playing hospital with her dollies, I sorta rested my eyes for a short while. Then Richard and Tommy called and invited me to supper at Richard's house. Richard cooked and it was good. Baked ham, macaroni casserole, turnip greens and cornbread, beets and icecream pie for dessert. Then he made me a plate to bring home for tomorrow! Hmm! Good. Now I think I'll go to bed!

Busy, Busy, Busy
June 19, 2007

I've had a busy week. On Thursday we had a recipe supper at church. This is when you make your favorite recipe and then take 5 copies of the recipe and put it along side the food you created and if someone likes it, they take a copy.

We had a lot of good food and I ended up with a lot of new recipes. I think I got a copy of everything except the oreo cookie dessert. I'm not much on oreo cookies!

I made my famous baked potato salad and a Hawaiian Wedding Cake. The cake is really good and easy to make, so if anyone wants the recipe, I'll be glad to send it along.

Then Saturday evening we had a hotdog and bean supper as a fundraiser for the Wesleyan Women. The money goes to support missionaries. Unfortunately, the church folks failed to come and eat. We don't get a lot of support from them. My friends Margaret, Mary Elizabeth and her husband and I bought and made everything and did all the work and the good people of the church stayed away. We did have some friends from outside the church to come, tho.

Sunday Margaret and I went to church at the Presbyterian Church across the street from me and had a wonderful time. The Sunday School was nice, the sermon was very good and sincere and the choir sang very well. When it was time to go, I saw someone from my long ago childhood. She was a first time visitor there and I spoke to her after the service. This woman went to school with my sister; actually was a few months older than Geraldine and her face was as smooth as a baby's behind. Nary a wrinkle! I tend to think that since she married money twice and was left a goodly amount by her parents, that maybe she's had either a face lift or several botox treatments. Cause her mama and daddy had wrinkles long before they were her age. Makes you wonder.

Rebecca and Tommy came Sunday evening for a week and then Tommy has a Boy Scout camping trip and then they'll be here until July 19. Chad and Emily are both spending the night and Sarah would have, but we ran out of bed space.

Tommy and the Organ
June 21, 2007

This morning Tommy and I were listening to Trading Post, a local radio show where you can buy, sell or trade any thing you have except guns.

A lady came on and advertised that she had coins for sale. Tommy and Chad are very much into coin collecting, so Tommy called her to see what she had and how much she wanted for her coins.

After he talked to her and she found out that he was really interested in getting the coins because he collected and not so he could sell them at a profit, she lowered her price to something reasonable. But, he didn't have any money and I didn't have any. So, he decided he'd sell one of his Game boys and a couple of games.

Naturally, that meant I'd have to get on Trading Post to advertise it for him. So, I did. A few minutes later, the phone rang and I answered it. A guy was on there wanting to know if we still had the Game boy. I said yes and he asked if my grandson would trade it for an organ. Tommy was standing right there and I asked him if he would trade it for an organ. His face got sorta pale and all his freckles stood out and he looked kinda funny. Then he said, "Organ? Liver? Kidney? Lung? Which one?"

He did sell his stuff for money; bought the coins; and actually got a couple worth much more than he paid for them.

He was happy. The lady was happy and the coins kept him and Chad occupied for about three hours while they went thru the coin books and checked the dates on a bunch of them. Still have enough to keep them occupied for a good while. Maybe months!

Rose Moss, Again
June 23, 2007

What's with the rose moss? I remember writing about the one that came up in my hanging pot that was dark pink and then sprinkling the seed and the next year getting just about every color under the sun.

This year one finally came poking thru and then another and another until the pot was full. They finally got buds and then bloomed and guess what? They are all shades of rose except one that is bright white! They are also mixed between being double blossoms and single.

There's a radio show on WBTM every Wed. morning called "Whats the Dirt" and the host has a master gardener and a couple of others who are knowledgeable about plants and flowers and I'm thinking about calling and asking them about this lil oddity.

My Week
June 29, 2007

I've had a busy week. Sunday Rebecca asked if her friend Jessica could come spend the night. Well, she did and stayed until Thursday evening. One thing about her, you don't have to worry about what she'll eat, cause while she was here she only ate a roll of cookie dough, chocolate chip cookies, chips, and mountain dew. I'm hoping that when they went out with Emily to eat, she actually ate food.

I had Brittany every day this week , but didn't have Coby yesterday. His G'ma wanted to keep him. So now, I have the weekend with no lil folks, just 10 year olds and teens!

Tomorrow is YARDSALE day! Can't wait. Don't know how many will actually be held, but there's one advertised at Shirley's house. Guess Cathy is gonna get rid of some of her mom's stuff. There's also one at a church and they usually have pretty good stuff if you get there early. We'll see. It's fun, tho, just being with my yardsale buddies!

We've had some hot days this week. Also some rain, which was sorely needed. "They" advertised rain and storms for today, but so far I've heard one thunder boom, and that was about 4PM. Nothing since.
Well, I think I'll get a shower tonight so if my alarm doesn't go off, I'll be ahead of the game in the morning.
