Another Cat Tale 6/8/03

Tiger is Rebecca's cat. Every night I put him in the basement and when my alarm goes off early in the AM, I can hear him yowling to get out before I even get down the stairs. Well, yesterday, when I came down I didn't hear any thing. Complete silence!! I didn't worry about it, I just figured that he hadn't gone to the basement (he's gotten smart enough now that he'll sometimes go down by himself and I don't have to physically put him down there). It was another very rainy day and I decided I'd run to the postoffice and when I got outside I heard Tiger meowing pitifully. Really sad sounding. I looked in the bushes...his hiding place on the other two occasions when he got out....but didn't see him. Then I happened to glance at my neighbor Anni's house and there he is with his head poking out of a lil hole in her brick foundation. I called Rebecca and told her and she went out and tried to get him to come out. Then she went to Anni's house and she took her down to the basement, but the cat was in a bricked up space that you couldn't get to. Well, Anni got her flashlight and some cat treats and tried manfully to get the cat to come out. She sat out in the rain while we went to the store to buy a B'day gift, but that stubborn cat wouldn't budge. Later in the evening, Rebecca, Rachel, and Emily tried to get him to come out. They fed him a can of cat salmon, two slices of ham and part of a hamburger, but by then he wasn't hungry any more and it was nice and dry, so WHY should he come out? About ten I went to Susan's to get Tommy and take Emily to get her clothes, but on the way to the car we took some dry cat food and water out and put it down in the yard. When we got back home and opened the car door, the first thing we heard was Tiger going "Meow, Meow". The kids thought he might have his head out the hole but when we got to the wall, we found that the sound was coming from the bushes beside our house. There he was, curled up crying like a big cat baby, so Emily picked him up and took him in and gave him to Rebecca who was tickled pink to have "her" cat back. He did go down to the basement at bedtime last night and he was there yowling when I came down this morning. Thus ends the tale of Tiger!! Oh, how you ask, did Tiger get out? Well, Chad and Tommy were in the basement Friday evening "building" and spray painting and when you open the screen door, you have to push it closed or else it stands open. They did go out a couple of times and didn't close the door back so Tiger took that as a sign that he was supposed to go exploring. However, he's not a brave out doorsy type, so when the rain started he took refuge in Anni's basement.

The Final Straw

Friday evening I decided to go clean the church instead of waiting til Sat. because I had some stuff to do Sat. that I knew would take some time....Making spinach dip and cheese straws...... Well, when I left, I put the cone out in front of my parking space so I could get back in and planned to get back before visitation hours, which were 7PM to 8:30 PM. I arrived back home at 6:50PM, and my cone was gone and I had no way to get into the carport. Some white haired gentleman (that I'd never seen before) from WY was out in the parking lot and tried to direct me up the drive way to a non-existent parking space. Well, I ended up down in the bottom of the lot where I made my own space beside the dumpster. I barely made it into the the basement before tears flowed. I hadn't really cried since 2001 when I lost custody of Tommy and Rebecca, but after a hectic day with 2 toddlers and one screaming infant, the removal of my cone was the straw that broke the camel's back! Have YOU ever had a day like that?

Reunion

Imagine a very large room....auditorium size.....filled with about 700 senior(some VERY senior) citizens. Hair all gussied up, jewelry out, best dresses and suits, make-up just right and dancing shoes on. The reunion of all the graduating classes of GW from 1926 to 1956 was held tonight at the Averett North Campus. I went with a friend from school whom I hadn't seen since the 25th reunion in '79. She and her husband picked me up at 5:30 and we got there and got inside at 6PM. I saw a lot of people who looked vaguely familiar, but I saw some who had been in my classes for 6 years; both at Woodrow Wilson and GW. There were long lines for food and while I was in line this older man came up, leaned over to peer at my nametag. He says "you're a baby...class of 54", then he hugged me. He then turned around and talked for a minute and then said the same thing again. It was time for me to move on up, so I finally got my food and went back to my table, leaving the "geezer" to harass someone rlse. I really had a good time. It's amazing how OLD some of these folks looked.I sure am glad that the class of 54 was still young and goodlooking.

Comments 6/30/03

To all my dear readers: I thought the idea of a comment was for you to comment on what I'd written, not to use it as a forum to make "digs" at other family members. As for as my yard work.....that was a most enjoyable day and it wouldn't have been if there had been somebody else there. I had help when I needed it....Michael came over and cut down some limbs and some heavy vines, but he didn't stay and he didn't TALK! What I wanted and got was quiet time to work in my yard and work in my flowers. It wouldn't have been the same if I'd had "help"! So, everyone....keep the comments revelent to the topic. I love you all and I'd like to think that you loved each other...at least a little bit.
