Here I go Again 7/04/03

First, the word "digs" was mine.....nobody elses. I wish the ones who spend most of their time here could help me with all of my house work/yard work, but unfortunately Anna and Brittany fight over my broom and feather duster and Savannah couldn't give a crying hoot! I did try taking Brittany out to do yard work, but she pulled up flowers instead of weeds and then wanted to eat the blooms. No help there!!! The others who spend a lot of time here...Tommy, Rebecca and Rachel tend to do a lot of eating and sleeping, so again, not much help there.....although they do make up an occasional bed and pick up stuff and put it away. There's nobody else who "spends a lot of time" here and as for my health....I'm healthy as a horse, Thank God! So.........., let's not bicker(my word) among ourselves. Let's just enjoy what God has given us and "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Love you all...wish yall did!!!!

Joshua 7/19/03

About a month ago, Douglas called me and told me "G'ma, I've found you a man"! "I'm not looking for a man", I replied. Well, Douglas gave him my e-mail address and he sent me a picture and asked for one of me. Yall all know I DON'T do pictures!! So I told him that. So, he sent me his phone number, cell phone number and his e-mail address. Well, we talked a couple of times and he wanted me to come to BurgerKing and meet him and then he would take me out to eat. I thought I was gonna finally meet him last Sunday, but somehow, our wires got crossed. Anyway, I told Rebecca today that instead of cooking supper, that we would go to BurgerKing and eat since Douglas was working. Well, we had to go grocery shopping and I had just got in when the phone rung and it was Joshua. He asked if I would come to BurgerKing. I told him I was planning on coming anyway with Rebecca......so we did. Douglas met us at the door and introduced us and we sat down with him. He asked us what we wanted to eat, ordered it and wouldn't take my money. We had a nice conversation and Rebecca was very outgoing and talkative. However, when he went back for refills for his drink, she would whisper"Do you like him, G'ma", Do you?" I told her that he seemed to be nice but you couldn't tell if "you liked someone", just from that short period of time. When we got ready to go, he walked us out to my car and said he'd call. We'll see! He was a nice man but somehow it's strange to be talking to a man at my age. What to do? What to do?

This 'n' That 7/24/03

Well, here it is midnight....ought to be time for bed, but I thought I'd write a bit. I've had a really nice week with just Brittany and Tommy. He sleeps late and Brittany is a good baby and a good napper and is learning so many things. This week she has learned how to say duck, eat, all gone, Dora and today I said "dog gone" and she piped up with dog gone, too. We've had rain every day except today, but today was a nice, not too hot day. Didn't even need the AC on. Michael put mulch down for me in the front yard behind my bushes and now I have two plants. One is a squash plant with two squashes and the other is humongous and almost has blooms, but I'm not sure what it is. Maybe zucchini or pumpkin.....we'll see. With all the rain, the flowers are growing, but also the weeds. I have two flower boxes I planted petunias in and I have pulled up a lot and given them away or planted them in pots and I still have them running over every where. Any body for petunias? Whenever I get blue, I close my eyes and imagine that I'm somewhere with nice hot sand, a breeze off the ocean and a couple of good books. Guess thats as close as I'll get this year, but I do think I'm overdue for a vacation. I think I've had either childen or babies every day since last summer.(Except Memorial Day) I know, I know, all you moms out there. But, hey, I'm getting old and need that vacation!!! Maybe I'll find me a man and take off for a weekend...but then, maybe not. I don't even know one who has a beach house!!Oh, well... Looks like B'day time is coming. Not mine, but Bobby, then Cindy, then Keister, then Doug, then Leanna, and today is Ashleys and Sat. is Bucks. We do have a lot of summer B'days, don't we? We already had Linda, Abby, Hayley, Kaitlyn, Emily, and Rachel and Teresa. Thats a lot of B'days!!!! Well, starting Monday, I'll be back to three babies. April and Amanda will be going back to work after vacations and I'll be back trying to juggle naps, feedings and diaper changes. I hope it won't take too long to get Brittany and Anna back on the same schedule of eating and sleeping. Guess I'd better go....it was the 24th when I started, now its the 25th. Time waits for no man...or woman

Teen Years

I remember back in 53, my girlfriend and I got our driver's licenses. Well, my dad had a car, but he never let me drive it.....not even with him in it.(However, as my brothers got old enough to drive, they ALL got to drive my dad's car....a newer model by then, too) But, I digress. My friend lived with her aunt and uncle and he had a big old tank like pontiac. Anytime she asked to use the car he would let her. I remember the summer after we got licenses, we used to get dressed in white ducks (pants)...with sharp creases and our blouses tucked into our pants, hair fixed just so, a little makeup on, and sandals on our feet. Of course we were going hunting! We always had a particular place to go. Where the boys from the county schools hung out. Big Daddys Drive In. Back then, they had a jukebox with the music piped to the outside. We would drive up, park, go inside and order..usually a coke, sometimes a milkshake, and then go back out to "our" car and the boys we were interested in would come over and talk to us. We would all sit on the car....those cars had big fenders and bumpers! After playing 6/8 songs, we would all leave with the boys following us part the way back down the road. My friend was told that she drove like a guy by one of the boys and she floated on air for days. You know, we didn't tell dirty jokes, make inappropiate remarks, neck or anything like that, but we had these guys for friends the whole summer. We all liked the song...."Shh Boom,Shh Boom" and one of the boys who was named Dean could sing really good. At the last play I went to at the Courtyard, I ran into this woman who went to school with Dean at Dan River and she told me he was a surgeon now. He sure was one cute guy...he was the one I liked and my friend liked his buddy, but I can't even remember his name now. Later, when my cousin Linda got old enough to be interested in boys, she had a friend who had a motorcycle. Of course, her mom wouldn't let her ride on it so he would call her and she would make plans to meet him at our other hangout...Pettys Sweet Shop....which was within walking distance of our houses. But what we would really do was met him at Bellevue school and go for a ride on his bike. My parents would have killed me had they known that Linda and I were hanging onto each other on the back of a motorcycle while wheeling around North Danville. But, we never got caught although my sister thought she saw us get on behind him one evening. She asked me instead of telling my mom or Linda's mom and I told her that was the first and only time and we'd never do it again. We didn't...at least where Geraldine might see us! Oh, those were the days.
